Rosemary Maeder: A Biographical Summary

Rosemary Maeder may claim that she first delivered a course of instruction when she was "pulled from class" to play the piano for music instruction of kindergarten children in her own elementary school. She studied music in High School and entered the South African College of Music which is incorporated in the University of Cape Town. She graduated as the class medalist of her Bachelor of Music class in 1978. She has been active as a teacher and performer over the past twenty seven years.

She has taught privately, at public and private schools, been active as a church musician, free-lance performer and educator. She is married to Dr. Dennis Maeder, a bio-informaticist. In 1997 they relocated to Silver Spring, when he joined the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute. They have two children, Elizabeth and Robert who graduated from Springbrook High School in Montgomery County, and are now studying at University of Maryland, College Park.

Rosemary is a state certified music teacher, having studied at the University of Maryland College Park, she first achieved a Maryland Standard Professional Certificate in 2001. She taught elementary General and Vocal Music for three years, before she resumed her studies at the Peabody Institute as a graduate assistant in the Theory Department, studying organ as a minor with Donald Sutherland. She graduated in May 2006 with a Master of Music in Music Theory Pedagogy, and was invited to join the distinguished Epsilon Omicron chapter of the music honor society Pi Kappa Lambda.

Rosemary Maeder runs her own studio Made O' Music in Montgomery County MD, and was Music Director of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Millersville, Anne Arundel County until August 2007. She is now teaching music in the public school system. She offers a limited number of students group and private instruction in Piano, Organ, Flute and Recorder with concurrent theory instruction, thereby grounding her students in knowledgeable and competent musicianship.
